Instead of remaining a villain, he seeks to either be left alone or to be a force for good. He has one of the darkest histories-a villainous history. He has a conflicted presence in the X-Men and as a hero. This is what makes Wolverine such a compelling character. Ultimately, Wolverine considers his past and his actions unforgivable because controlled or not, he did them. He has attempted advising kids before, but mainly seeks to be a means of creating a safer place for them-being a soldier for them. Being part of the X-Men has allowed him to try to create places of belonging for young mutants who may otherwise end up being killed or used as weapons. The X-Men also provide him with a place to be productive instead of destructive, although those tendencies still come out. Wolverine can take down major threats that others may struggle against significantly. In later missions with the X-Men this proves handy, since he is one of their most effective members. He learned strategy, how to hurt, how to maim, and how to kill. Wolverine's time in the military taught him how to be an effective weapon.
